Bihar Minimum Wages Rules, 1951

The Minimum Wages Act, 1948 provides for fixing minimum rates of wages in certain employments, which are included in the schedule. Bihar Government has enacted the Bihar Minimum Wages Rules, 1951 for the effective administration and monitoring of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948.



    • The Act and Rules apply to the schedule of employment for which minimum wages are fixed/revised. 
    • Every employer shall pay the minimum wages for the scheduled employments under this Act and Rules framed thereunder. There is provision to fix hours of work, overtime, and wages for overtime.
    • Variable DA is fixed based on the Consumer Price Index of the previous calendar year.  
    • Minimum wages are fixed in Bihar on the advice of the State Level Minimum Wages Advisory Board.
