West Bengal Minimum Wages Rules

The Minimum Wages Act, 1948 provides for fixing minimum rates of wages in certain employments, which are included in the schedule. West Bengal Government has enacted the West Bengal Minimum Wages Rules, 1951 for the effective administration and monitoring of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948.

Compliances

    Applicability

    • The Act applies to the schedule of employment for which minimum wages are fixed/revised. 
    • Every employer shall pay the minimum wages for the scheduled employments under this Act. There is provision to fix hours of work, overtime, and wages for overtime.
    • Variable DA is fixed based on the Consumer Price Index of the previous calendar year.  
    • Minimum wages are fixed in West Bengal on the advice of the State Level Minimum Wages Advisory Board.
