Telangana Notifies 10 Hour Workdays for Commercial Establishments Under EoDB Reforms
The Telangana Government has notified allowing extended daily work hours for commercial establishments.
Scope of Exemption
- Applies to all Commercial Establishments (excluding Shops) as defined under Section 2(5) of the Act.
- Exemption granted from Sections 16 and 17 of the Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988.
- Implemented under the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) reform agenda.
Revised Working Hours Framework Permitted Daily and Weekly Limits Daily working hours: Up to 10 hours Weekly working hours: Not to exceed 48 hours
Overtime Overtime is applicable for:
- Any work beyond 48 hours/week
- Maximum overtime: 144 hours per quarter
- Payment: As per overtime wage norms
Mandatory Rest No employee can work for more than 6 hours continuously without a 30-minute rest interval.
Daily Spread-Over Total daily work period (including rest) must not exceed 12 hours.
Compliance & Revocation Clause If any of the above conditions are violated, the exemption will be revoked by the Government without prior notice.
